«Pedagogical practice»

Pedagogical practice of Nature and Geography Department students is a component part of a teaching educational process and holds one of the leading places in the professional preparation of a comprehensive secondary school teacher. It provides the combination of the theoretical preparations of future teachers with their practical activities in a pedagogical establishment, and facilitates the formation of a creative approach to pedagogical activities, defines their professional abilities, and the level of their pedagogical orientation.

The aim of a pedagogical practice is mastering modern techniques and frameworks of teaching educational process organization by students in their future professions, forming professional competence in future biology, chemistry and geography teachers, forming the need to regularly refresh knowledge and apply it to practical activities. At the practice students are enabled to get their bearings in the correctness of the chosen profession, to find out the measure of their personal aptitudes necessary for the profession of a teacher.


Geography lessons at the seventh form

Main purposes of the pedagogical practice are:

– expending and improving theoretical knowledge of students;
– gaining and enhancing main professional pedagogical skills, crafts, and experience according to requirements of professional standards of higher pedagogical education, and qualified features of an expert;
– raising pedagogical awareness and professionally important personal traits in future teachers.

Basic conditions of efficiently passing pedagogical practice are its psychological pedagogical orientation, theoretical grounding, educational and teaching essence, complex approach to the content and arrangement of the practice, and systematization.

Conducting extracurricular activities

Teaching educational work of trainee students is done in several stages:

– Preparatory: student is obliged to take part in introductory meetings at the University and get an assignment to school, take a plan for a practice, and documents that are included in the report procedure;
– Main stage is the stage at which student is set to work as a teacher, a form master, and to impose upon himself all the duties of the positions given;
– Final stage is the stage, where the pedagogical practice is summarized, the report documents are prepared, and the practice is defended.

The places for conducting the practice might be secondary comprehensive schools, out-of-school establishments, and summer camps, school grounds in Uman and settlements where students live.

Over the period of conducting the practice students at our Department demonstrate a high level of mastering materials, conduct different types of lessons and extracurricular activities, and are getting ready for work at secondary comprehensive school.
